Cognitive-communication disorders are problems with communication in which the underlying cause is a cognitive deficit rather than a primary language or speech deficit. The person with the cognitive disorder may have difficulty paying attention to a conversation, remembering the specific information, understanding the conversation or joke, or responding accurately.

Can result from:
  • stroke
  • traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • a degenerative disease such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia
  • brain tumor
  • brain infection

TC Speech can complete a Standardized Cognitive Assessment

Purpose:  determine the health of your brain through measuring important cognitive areas (memory, orientation, word retrieval, executive function skills like judgement and reasoning). It provides a baseline of your cognitive health, supports personalized recommendations on ways to optimize cognitive functioning, and helps track your brain functioning over time.
